Final GCW Preparations
Dennis Harter
dennish@isb.ac.th
With only one week of classes remaining before our Global Citizenship Week, please make sure your child is prepared for their course. Teachers have supplied packing lists and itineraries for planning purposes. Please double check that passports have 6 months validity and all necessary visas, for students leaving the country.
At the HS PTA meeting on Wednesday, I shared some quick thoughts on GCW. You can view that presentation, with a few added notes, by clicking here.
Return from GCW – another odd day
Dennis Harter
dennish@isb.ac.th
Please note that on Tuesday, February 26th, our first day back at school after GCW, it will be a Day 3 in the HS. This is noteworthy because the last day of school before GCW will be a Day 1. This is a loss of an even day – a product of matching MS and HS schedules. Please help ensure your children are aware of this. (Note: Monday, February 25th is Maka Bucha Day – there is no school that day)
Grade 10 IB Information Parent Evening
Phil Rogers
philr@isb.ac.th
This coming Wednesday evening from 6:30 pm in MPB there will be a presentation for any Grade 10 parent and/or student who would like to know more about the IB Diploma and/or IB Courses and/or other courses on offer next year.
If parents attended the Grade 10 evening in November then you do not need to attend this Wednesday as the information is very similar.
Advanced Placement Exam Sign-up
Phil Rogers
philr@isb.ac.th
This week students have been asked to sign-up for any Advance Placement exams they would like to take this coming May. If students are currently taking our AP Statistics or AP Calculus courses we would expect them to sit these exams. However, there are a number of other AP exams available to students. If they require further information then they need to see Mr Rogers’ secretary, Khun Arintra on Monday 11th February to obtain further information. Registration for exams must be handed into the Dean of Academics office no later than Wednesday 13th February.
Counseling New Letter…
Andrew Weiser
andreww@isb.ac.th
The counseling staff would like to congratulate our own Debbie McDowell for receiving the “Excellence in Counseling” award from the University of Miami. With over 27,000 students applying to the University last year, there are many, many counselors in the running for this award!! Congratulations Debbie!!!!
All: The ISB counselors are facilitating a forum for parents about online safety for children, making smart technology choices, and owning one’s digital footprint. After a general session, we will break out by division to focus on age-specific issues. Space is limited to 20 High School parents. The forum takes place on February 14th from 8:00-9:30 am. Contact the Curriculum Office to register. Don’t miss it!
The Counseling department is looking for a volunteer parent to be in charge of the College Spotlight board in the high school. Every week we focus on a different university from the top schools around the world and our volunteer parents have always done a great job. We’re looking for a parent to continue that this much-appreciated job! See Cathy Curtis if you are interested.
Freshmen and Sophomores: Have you talked with your parents about your classes for next year? What are your strengths and weaknesses? What do you like best? What are requirements for graduation? What are university requirements? Start thinking about this, and if you have questions, be sure and ask your counselor. He/she is happy to talk with you!
Juniors: Junior Seminar III was January 28, 29. Juniors should have turned in the Junior Packet (Junior Profile, Resume, Self Recommendation etc.) This packet needs to be completed and turned in before a Junior Conference can be arranged. Congratulations to the vast majority of Juniors for doing a great job on the packet and we look forward to meeting with you and your parents in the Junior conference in the coming weeks!
Seniors: You may receive notice from your University about an updated transcript. Mid-Year reports (including Transcript) went out to all universities between January 25 and January 29.
As University decisions come in, students should notify their counselor. This is important information for future students!
Seniors applying to universities in Japan, Korea, Australia, South Africa etc. with late deadlines, PLEASE be aware of those deadlines. They can vary from university to university!! See your counselor if you have any questions.

LUNCH News…What you NEED to know…
Michelle Ihrig
cafeteria@isb.ac.th
Starting Monday Feb. 11, those students who have insufficient funds on their cards will not be serviced from the Cafeteria. Up until now, Epicure has been accommodating those students who forgot to top up and did not have cash with them, by jotting down the ID number and debiting the amount from the card on a later date once it has been topped up. Because the number of these students is on the rise, we will go back to Original School Rules, which is to top up the cards and pay with them. Don’t let your kids go hungry next week! Remind them to bring their IDs AND have them topped up! Thank you.
