Honors and High Honors Students from Semester 1
Dennis Harter
dennish@isb.ac.th

We have had another successful semester at ISB.  We celebrate our student achievement in their performances, service, athletic endeavors, and friendships.  Of course, one of the important ways our students demonstrate their learning and success is through academics.  We proudly recognize the effort, persistence, and achievement of our first semester Honor Roll and High Honor Roll students.  To qualify for the Honor Roll, students earn a GPA between 3.5 and 3.899.  To qualify for the High Honor Roll, students have a GPA, 3.9 or higher.  The High School faculty, counselors, and administration congratulate the following students: (see enclosed)d f

ISB students never ceases to amaze
Phil Rogers
philipr@isb.ac.th

Over the last week I have been really struck by the vast range of talents, interests and passions that exist in the ISB HS student body.  This was particularly evident in two very special events this week including our second IB music recital on Wednesday evening where soloists demonstrated amazing talent on the piano, bass clarinet, violin flute, electric guitar and a vocalist.  Last night saw our inaugural TEDx Youth talks given by our Grade 11 students.  These impassioned talks covered global, social, health and cultural issues and were truly amazing in the ability of the student to keep the audience engaged and engrossed.  It will be fantastic to see them on the live TEDx Youth site in a weeks time.

Second Season IASAS

Next week our second season IASAS teams depart for various destinations across SE Asia following the ISB Black & Gold Assembly on Tuesday afternoon.  It is a time of much anticipation and a culmination of the hard work and dedication of our athletes.  We wish them all the best of luck and hope they will come back holding their heads high knowing they have given their best performances for themselves and ISB.
Go Panthers!!

ISB partner with Harvard Graduate School of Education on Mindfulness
Phil Rogers
philipr@isb.ac.th

ISB has been invited to partner with Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE) researchers to conduct research on ISB IB Diploma students and IB Diploma teachers in a study examining mindfulness and the IB Learner Profile.  This is an excellent opportunity for students to be involved in their first academic research project.  We are keen to have as many IB students and teachers involved in the survey as possible.  To participate students have been sent an email and they need to reply with their name, they will then be provided the website and log on details.

We look forward to seeing the research outcomes later in the year.
Mr Rogers

Counseling New Letter…
Andrew Weiser
andreww@isb.ac.th

All:  Tuesday, February 5th: Julia Simens, author of Emotional Resilience and the Expat Child, will be presenting once again to parents in the ISB Community at 8 a.m. in the New Theater/Cultural Center.  Her new presentation – OUR KIDS: Filtering & Connecting- How to deal with the many challenges our international kids face in today’s fast paced world!

A second presentation will be held for HS students in room 3-203 from 10:20 to 11:10.  A sack lunch will be served.  For more information: please contact Dave Anderson at “David W. ANDERSON” davida@isb.ac.th

Sophomores:  Sophomore Seminar II was presented last Monday and Tuesday (January 21, 22) to all Grade 10 students.  This was a career exploration using Naviance and Holland Codes.  Those students that missed the session will have a make up next week.

Juniors: TOEFL- those students holding a passport from a country that English is not the native language took the Institutional TOEFL on Friday (January 25).  This is a practice and these students will need to take the “real” TOEFL for college admissions.

The next Junior Seminar is January 28, 29.  There will also be a parent meeting for all Grade 11 Parents the evening of January 29 (6:30PM).  Juniors should be working on the Junior Packet. It includes important assignments to be completed by January 29 including a “Junior Profile,” “Resume,” “Self Recommendation” etc.  There’s even an assignment for parents (Parent Perspective)!

Seniors: You may receive notice from your University about an updated transcript.  Mid-Year reports (including Transcript) will be going out to all universities today and early next week.   As University decisions come in, students should notify their counselor.  This is important information for future students!
