Early Dismissal on Tuesday, December 11th

Dear Parents,

Reminder, all ISB students will be dismissed at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, December 11th, our next scheduled Early Dismissal Day.  School buses will leave at 1:15 pm.  There are no scheduled after school activities this day for MS students.  Early Dismissals allow ISB Staff to collaborate and further their professional development, providing a common meeting time in all three divisions.  Please note that no instructional time is lost, as we have added additional school days to the academic year.

MS Semester 1 Report Cards

ISB will be closed during the week of December 24th to 28th.  As a result, report cards for all returning students will not be mailed home until after January 1st.  All information will be available on PowerSchool however after 12:00pm on Friday, December 21st.

For all students leaving ISB at the end of this semester, their report card will be available for pickup in the MS Counseling Office after 11:30am on Friday, December 21st, or on their last day of attendance this semester.

Letter to all MS Parents…

Dear Parents,

Every year the Grade 7 class sponsors several students from the R-35 School in Khao Lak.  We sponsor the students through the After the Wave foundation.  For more information about After the Wave and the school in Khao Lak, please click here.

For the past two years we have raised money through a Digital Technology Challenge and it was so successful, for learning and for fundraising, we are going to try it again this year!

On Thursday, December 13th, at 6:30am, every student in Grade 7 is going to try to go without using electronic communication devices for 24 hours.  On Friday, December 14th we will have a Socratic Seminar about the impact of electronic devices on learning and on their lives in general.

Help sponsor our students as they take the 24 Hour Digital Technology Challenge on Thursday, December 13th. If each student raises 200 baht we will be able to continue our sponsorship of the same children 7th graders have sponsored for the last 4 years.  If we raise more than that amount, which we did last year, we will donate to the general fund.

We see this as a good learning opportunity for our students and a good way for them to give of themselves as we fund-raise for others.

This will be as hard for the teachers as it is for the students.  We want our students to be as honest as possible about how many hours they can survive without cell phones, video games, the internet and mp3 players.  Our discussion on Friday will address the ways in which being digitally wired in can cause multiple distractions.  We believe that talking about our technology use (and abuse) will help us make better decisions about how to manage our time and our ability to communicate.

Two of ISB’s 3 major exit outcomes involve community service and giving to others. Experience shows when we are giving up something to help others, be it time or effort, then the lesson is stronger and more meaning is attached to the giving.

We thank you in advance for your support.
