A Journey all over the World!
International Day brought a sea of colour and a taste of the world’s countries to the Elementary School today. What an absolute joy to witness our students’ pride in their ‘home’ countries, to see them interact with the country customs of their friends and to sing with them ‘We are Family’ and our very own composition, ’Same but Different’.
Our theme for this year, ‘The Same but Different’ is a reminder for us to renew our efforts as citizens of the world to look for commonalities between us in addition to celebrating our diversity. Our children confront cultural difference each and every day at ISB. They learn important skills and lessons about getting on with others, about different beliefs and customs. In the end, we want them to become caring, global citizens who experience success in the world community.
International Day is a unique and special event in our calendar, only possible with the support and endeavors of a huge community of helpers: ISB parents, ISB teachers and IAs, ISB buildings and grounds, and of course, our amazing student body. Congratulations and thank-you to all – it’s been an incredibly memorable day!
Hats/Water Bottles
We are concerned with the number of children playing in the playground or going to P.E. without hats. Water bottles are also essential for P.E. Please encourage children to bring their hats and water bottles everyday.

The Writing Workshop: Embedding Word study, Grammar and Conventions
in a Writing Workshop Model
With all of the many facets of learning that occur throughout the school day, you may wonder how students acquire word study, grammar and conventions. It is tricky, but teachers are masters at embedding these important topics into their writing instruction so students see them as connected, not separate and isolated subjects. During the month of December, there will be two literacy parent trainings offered to show you what this looks like. These trainings will require active participation with the second training building on the first. Please try to attend both.
When: Thursday, December 6th AND December 20th from 7:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.
Where: ESMPR
What to Bring: If you have a special journal that you write in, please bring that with you

Using the Playground
Families are welcome to use the ISB playgrounds after school hours, with supervision. However, during the school day from 7:00 am to 2:00 pm, the playgrounds are to be used only by students for scheduled recess. This includes the PK/Kinder playground. After 1:00 PK dismissal, the playground should only be used by Kindergarteners for their scheduled recess. Your cooperation is appreciated.
Leaving ISB at the End of the First Semester?
Do you need school records for your child(ren)’s next school? Parents of students who are not returning to ISB after semester 1 need to notify the ES Office, K. Tina (tinaratr@isb.ac.th) and fill out the attached Notice of Withdrawal from ISB Form to enable us to process school records for their next school. Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
Cafeteria News…Did You Know…?
Michelle Ihrig

…That garlic is one of the most ancient medicinal foods in the world. And that it remains one of the most valuable and versatile foods on the planet? In the ancient world, garlic was fed to soldiers and slaves to keep them in good health. During WWII, the British medics used garlic as an antibiotic to treat wounded soldiers. One of the real advantages of using garlic in this way is that the bacteria in our bodies don’t develop resistance to it, so it is effective over time, unlike many antibiotic drugs. Today garlic continues to be recognized for all of the healthy benefits we reap from it. Garlic promotes the well-being of the heart and immune systems with antioxidant properties and helps maintain healthy blood circulation. One of garlic’s most potent health benefits includes the ability to enhance the body’s immune cell activity. The best way to consume garlic is in its raw form, as cooking can potentially take away some of the nutrients if over heated. Garlic is widely used in the Cafeteria in its’ raw and cooked form in the salad dressings, in most feature salads, and in an array of the hot lunches across campus. Go Garlic! Enjoy.
