Dear MS Parents, Students and Staff,

On behalf of Grade 6, we want to give you an update on our progress with Operation Smile, and a huge thank you!

Through the work of our students and your support, we have raised over 320,000 baht, which will provide at least 20 children with surgeries and a new smile!

224,000.00 from raffle tickets

50,000.00 from miscellaneous events (bake sale, taping principals to the wall, chair auctions, VIP lounges etc.)

46278.25 from the 6th Grade Baht Battles

This was a huge effort.  Thank you again to all the parents, teachers and students who worked so hard to make this happen.

Sincerely,

Interesting Reads from the Middle School Counseling Office

By:  Mrs. Bagnato, ellenb@isb.ac.th

Though these books are written for teenagers, I had fun reading them too.  They provide an inside look at the lives of middle school students and they are available in our library.

Wonder by R.J. Palacio

Auggie has been homeschooled his whole life…until 5th grade.  Can he be accepted by friends and teachers at his new school despite a facial deformity that leaves people speechless?  Wonder is a powerful book about one boy’s transition to a new school and how he, his parents and his friends deal with the social, emotional and academic ups and downs that life throws their way.

Hormone Jungle:  Coming of Age in Middle School by Brod Bagert

Compiled as a series of teen poetry and artwork built around the fictional story of one girls middle school journey.  This book shows the power of writing and how learning sometimes happens in the most unexpected ways.

What does HOME mean to you?

By:  Mrs. Bagnato, ellenb@isb.ac.th

Artist, Vipoo Srivilasa and ISB would like to know!

Mr Sirivilasa is a ceramic artist who has lived in Australia and Thailand.  He is currently working on a project entitled “Thai Na Town – Little Oz.”  This is an international art project aimed at capturing expats’s experiences abroad while understanding the importance of culture and the places we call “home”.

In addition to offering workshops throughout Australia and Bangkok, Mr Sirivilasa has collaborated with ISB’s own Trista Meisner (middle school art) to provide workshops for a limited number of ISB students during the school day.  We feel very fortunate to have this international artist share his time and talents with us.

24 middle school students will have the opportunity to participate in this optional workshop with Mr Sirivilasa and Ms Meisner during the school day on November 22.  . Within the 30 minute workshop students will:

Ÿ  be introduced to the project

Ÿ  discuss what “home” means to them

Ÿ  use clay to make a small sculpture to represent their transition to ISB/Thailand

Afterwards, the students will meet with the middle school counselors to process the experience and check-in about their transition.

The sculptures they produce will be presented in the Thai Na Town – Little Oz exhibition at the Art Center, Chulalongkorn University December 1 – January 16.

If you are a new student and interested in participating, please contact your counselor for more information or stop by the guidance office for a permission slip.

Leaving ISB End of This Semester?

If you are leaving ISB end of this semester, please contact Khun Fon in the MS Office at supanniy@isb.ac.th – she will send you paperwork that needs to be completed in order for her to get your child’s school records ready for his/her next school.

Cafeteria News…Did You Know…?

Thanksgiving.  The time of year has come again, where we are reminded to give thanks for our plenty and bounty.  It is a time of community, collaboration, friendship, family, gratitude, blessings and celebration.  As has become custom at the HS/MS Cafeteria, Epicure will be serving up a traditional Thanksgiving Feast on Thursday Nov 22 starting at 10:15am.  The delightful menu will include: Carved Roast Turkey, Honey Glazed Ham, Homemade Herb Stuffing, Giblets Gravy, Mashed Potatoes, Broccoli & Carrot Saute and Pumpkin Pie, all for only 160 B.  Should your child wish to partake in this celebration on Thursday, please ensure that their campus cards are topped up so as not to disappoint.  Parents are also welcome to partake in the festivities!  Enjoy.
