The world is a book. And those that do not travel read only one page – St. Augustine of Hippo.
Many of our families enjoyed some time away last week, adding another few pages to their ‘world’ book. What powerful learning opportunities exist when we allow our children to confront and experience difference in the world around us – difference in daily living conditions, in common rituals, in eating, sleeping and going to school. Developing caring, global citizens who are able to reflect on their learning are important components of our Mission at ISB. At school, learning experiences and units of work are shaped with our broader goals clearly in mind. It’s wonderful to have a stretch of in-school learning time between now and Winter break to further develop these attributes in our students, including of course, our annual International Day, coming up on November 30. We look forward to sharing this special time with you!

At Parent Teacher Conferences, many grade 1 parents asked how they can support their child’s learning at home. The grade 1 teachers will present a workshop for parents on this topic. Teachers will explain to parents how they can support their child’s learning at home in the areas of: reading, writing, math, technology and behavior.
The grade 1 teachers look forward to this workshop on Friday 9th November, 10:20 – 11:20 in the ESMPR.
International Day
International Day is a fun and educational day to celebrate ISB’s diversity. We have 53 countries represented in our Elementary School. For those new to ISB, we will transform many of our ES classrooms into countries to celebrate different cultures, food, dress, language, music, geography, etc. Students are invited to wear a costume representative of their home country to school that day. Throughout the week (November 26-29), students are invited to wear country t-shirts instead of their uniform or P.E. uniform shirts. A country t-shirt represents a country or place you have visited with your family.
The day begins with an international parade down “main street”, or in our case the hallway from the track to the Chevron Theater, where we will have our International Assembly. (Due to fire codes and limited space, this is a students only assembly)From there, our children will return to their grade level classrooms where parents have prepared wonderful country celebrations.
All parents are encouraged to take part in creating this amazing learning experience for our students. We are looking for people who either want to host a room, co-host a room but need to find someone to partner with, or just help out in a country room. You don’t need to be from the country to help out. Hosting a room can be as simple as putting up pictures and decorations from the host country and a game, song or dance. To volunteer as a helper in a room you would be offering support for the setup/clean up and helping the host run different activities on International Day. Please contact the ES PTA Coordinators at escoord@isb.ac.th .
Leaving ISB at the End of the First Semester?
Do you need school records for your child(ren)’s next school? Parents of students who are not returning to ISB after semester 1 need to notify the ES Office, K. Tina (tinaratr@isb.ac.th) and fill out the attached Notice of Withdrawal from ISB Form to enable us to process school records for their next school. Thank you for your attention to this important matter.

Cafeteria News…Did You Know…?
Michelle Ihrig
cafeteria@isb.ac.th
…The weekly online Menus have been moved from the Website to the Parent Portal. The school is encouraging parents to use the Portal for the most up to date information regarding the respective schools. What is left on the Website are ‘Sample’ menus to give ‘Visitors’ to the site an idea of the kinds of delights served at ISB. In order to help your child make better food choices at school, it is an excellent practice to review what will be on offer in the Cafeteria on a daily basis so they are prepared to make their choice when they arrive at the buffet, hence not feeling rushed or overwhelmed. The menus can also be printed on a weekly basis for even easier reference. Please do not hesitate to contact myself with any other information we may provide. Enjoy.
