Dear ISB Parents,
On behalf of the faculty and staff, I would like to warmly welcome you all to the 2012/13 school year. We look forward to seeing the school full of happy students again on 14th August and to meeting you all soon.
I am excited by the challenge of being ISB’s new Head of School and to working with our Leadership Team, faculty, parents, students, support staff, and the Board of Trustees in order to provide the best possible learning experiences for our students. In accordance with our Mission, our aim is to inspire students to:
- Reach their academic potential.
- Be passionate, reflective learners.
- Become caring, global citizens, and
- Lead healthy, active, balanced lives
This summer has been a very busy one in terms of campus improvement and you will certainly notice a number of changes when you next visit the school.
Good progress has been made in the renovation of the MS/HS library and administrative offices and we expect these projects to be completed in November. The short term implications of this construction work are as follows:
- The school central administrative offices are now located in a temporary structure in the parking lot adjacent to the Chevron Theatre (Head of School, Deputy Head, Headmistress, Cashier, Business Office and Human Resources).
- The MS/HS library has moved temporarily to MPB1.
- One of the walkways adjacent to the zigzag path is closed because of the construction and this may cause some congestion at the start and end of the school day. We suggest that elementary students avoid this area and enter/exit directly through the ES entrance.
- The ED Tech offices have moved temporarily to the old HS music area behind the Chevron Theatre. In the future, this area will proudly host our new Invention Center.
- The PTA office has moved to the old ES music practice rooms.
The new gym, pool, and tennis courts are on track for a January 13th (2013) opening, while an additional twenty-four ES classrooms have been renovated.
We have been monitoring the Hand, Foot and Mouth situation in Thailand and have been in contact with our health advisors, the Ministry of Public Health, and the Nonthaburi Health Department. Procedures are in place for the regular disinfecting of classroom and common areas, monitoring of students for symptoms, and hygiene education. We will be sending more specific information in a separate Security Heads Note.
At present, we are welcoming 32 new teachers and 5 annual substitutes into the ISB community. We are also welcoming 5 new administrators into the school Leadership Team and look forward to the knowledge, skills, experiences, and ideas that all our new teachers and administrators will bring to help us continue to improve as a school.
Once again we look forward to seeing you all soon and to welcoming both returning and new students to ISB. If we can help you with anything, please don’t hesitate to ask. We see parents as real partners in the education of their children and ask that parents contact us with any questions, suggestions or concerns as soon as they arise. I have included contact details for our administrators at the end of this message.
Please note that each division (ES, MS and HS) will be sending information about the start of school shortly.
Sincerely,
Dr. Andy Davies
Head of School
