The very last plastic water bottle was sold at ISB on Tuesday May 1 at 10:28am by a 10th Grader at the Grind. Funny thing was, the countdown really created a buzz among the students, with one student even asking the Epicure staff to reserve it for him so he could put it on display somewhere. After being told that this was not fair to the others, he kept an eye on the bottle count and stayed closed to the sales. Upon the last sale, he arrived just seconds later to make the purchase himself, yet was just that little bit too late. Some are wondering why ban the bottle in this heat? Let us remember that paper cups are for sale for use at the fountains, and the bookstore sells very nice, easy to port reusable bottles- you even receive a 5% discount on all beverages when bringing your own cup! In addition, homemade fruit juices and premixed fresh fruit smoothies will now be for sale at the cashier where the water bottles used to be displayed, a much better option in this heat to keep our mineral count high, and keep the lines at the Grind shorter. We should all be proud in our effort to ‘ban the bottle’. Enjoy.
