Give Yourself a Break!

We have this great break and you should make sure to take some time to relax.  The push to our next break is a bit of a long one and there are lots packed in there so this is a good time to story up some of that energy.  Additionally, I’ve gone around doing book talks and explaining that reading is a great way to reduce stress.  However, I stumbled upon a great video from LifeHack that gives the Benefits of Reading: Why you Should Read Every Day.

To help you out, our wonderful staff in the library has put together a slide show of 50 NEW FICTION BOOKS with images and brief summaries.   Take a look below and then stop by and pick one up!

Have a great vacation and see you soon!

Warmest Regards,

Your Library Staff

Tender is the Flesh – by Augustina Maria Bazterrica

Whoa.  This is a shocking tale right from the start.  This is one of the Tournament of Books for this year and what a book it is!  It is a dystopic novel from the near future here disease is being passed around humans (again very of the time) via animal meat. Seems like the easy answer is to be vegan, but it turns out that science has decided we NEED meat now. The only thing left is us. This book spares no elements of what this industrialized version of cannibalism might be like. It is told from the 3rd person and it is almost like a long observation. If you really need something that will scare you, twist your mind, and just really make you consider being vegan, this book will do it.

Sadie – by Courtney Summers

Over the last year I have been listening to many more AudioBooks that usual while I walk or do chores around the house.  Sadie by Courtney Summers was definitely one of the best.  A murder mystery but also a very moving story about the love of two sisters, revenge, abuse and not judging people base on their appearance or status in society.  West MaCray, a radio host, who is doing segments on small towns in America, comes across a story about a missing girl, Sadie, curious – he begins to dig deeper to find out more.  As the story unfolds and we find out that Sadie’s younger sister, Mattie was murdered, a botched police investigation spurs Sadie on to find out what happened and revenge her sisters dealth.  The girls grew up in a trailer park with little support – Madie was everything to Sadie.  Every character in this book is read by a different person which enhances the Serial format.  Highly recommended.
