Examinations and results

April is here and the final preparations for the exams are underway. Students are already reviewing past material and past exam papers in some classes and there is official information to distribute and collect in this month.

All senior exam takers have been given:

  • Request form for results to college service
  • IB exam schedule – all examinations in MPB
  • Large brown envelope to address for their official IB transcripts (and diplomas) which will arrive in September
  • Form to complete with the forwarding address or collection details for the official documents.
  • Official personal code, PINcode and URL for the results site – see below:

Where will you be July 6 at 12.00 GMT this summer?

IB examination results are available to students on July 6 at 12.00 GMT on a secure IBO website. All exam takers are provided with a personal PIN code to access their results online.

In April students may request results be sent directly to their college or university ahead of registration. There are some strict deadlines on the data entry for these requests. Such requests are sent by the school before May 1 or in summer by sending the request directly to the appropriate IBO office.

All senior IB exam takers have a request form and are encouraged to submit it – on time please! The colleges appreciate the opportunity of having results early and it saves a lot of time at the beginning of the first semester at college!

Good luck to all exam candidates, seniors and juniors and remember to get a good night’s sleep and have breakfast!

Middle School Parents meeting September 2011

Many thanks to the 72 parents who braved the rain to attend the first MS Parents’ IB information evening on Wednesday, September 7th.

The overall philosophy of the two year IB diploma program and ISB’s rationale for becoming an IB school 27 years ago provided the foundation of the presentation. This was followed by an short explanation of the diploma program itself and the courses available.

While final decisions about participating in the IB diploma program are not made until 10th grade, it is useful to have a basic understanding early on to inform course choices in 9th and 10th grade.

There is a meeting for 9th and 10th grade students and their parents in November and an additional meeting for 10th graders in February prior to course registrations for 11th grade.

The presentation and handout are available. Please click on the link.

Semester 2 for seniors and juniors

Semester 2 is well underway and the diploma and certificate seniors have a few things on their minds:

  • College acceptances/offers
  • IB assessments to be completed
  • IB classes to be completed
  • IB examinations
  • College acceptances/offers
  • Graduation
  • and college acceptances/offers

This is a challenging semester for all seniors in terms of maintaining focus to finish well. After four years in high school (including two years in IB classes for diploma and certificate students) the end is in sight and the reality of leaving school, friends and family is moving closer each day.

Meanwhile the diploma juniors have started their TOK classes and had the initial orientation for the Extended Essays. The first semester successfully completed the students navigate the IB program, organizing their time and managing homework while remembering to ask for advice or help whenever necessary. More than half the junior diploma students are taking an IB examination in May as ‘Anticipated’ candidates. Next year their registration status will change to ‘Diploma’ for the final examinations that will lead to their goal – an IB diploma.

There are 205 seniors and juniors at ISB taking one or more IB examinations in May this year.

Group 4 project

Group 4 refers to the Experimental Sciences in the IB Diploma hexagon. Participation in,and completion of, the Group 4 project is a requirement for IB Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

It may also allow them to understand the limitations of scientific study, for example, the shortage of appropriate data and/or the lack of resources. The emphasis is on interdisciplinary cooperation and the processes involves in scientific investigation, rather than the products of such investigation.” (Experimental Sciences guidelines, IBO, 2007)

Students are assigned G4 groups. The project has three stages: planning, action and evaluation. Planning takes place prior to the scheduled G4 day in which the action and evaluation are completed.
