Dr. Nopanand Chanorathaiku

 A distinguished classical pianist and a highly sought-after teacher, Dr. Nopanand has just received a trophy for Excellence in Music Teaching from the Trinity College London for having students receiving the highest marks in Piano Examinations in Thailand for 12 consecutive years. Dr. Nopanand obtained her Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Piano Performance from the Thornton School of Music, University of Southern California, U.S.A. under a Fulbright Scholarship. Under the tutelage of Professor Daniel Pollack, who is in turn a student of the legendary Rosina Lhevinne, Dr. Nopanand was trained in the tradition of the Russian School. On the other hand, Dr. Nopanand obtained her Master of Music Degree in Piano Performance and Literature from the Eastman School of Music, Rochester, New York. Under the guidance of Professor Barry Snyder, who is in turn a student of the legendary Cecile Genhart. Dr. Nopanand was also trained in a refined European and American tradition.

Among the many prizes she received, Dr. Nopanand was the First Prize Winner of The National Youth Piano Concerto Competition (1988) and the Triple-Prize Winner of The Bangkok Chopin Piano Competition (1989) – First Prize, Best Mazurka Prize and Best Waltz Prize. While studying, Dr. Nopanand was selected to perform in numerous masterclasses both in Thailand and abroad with such artists as Menahem Pressler, Peter Frankl, Malcolm Bilson, Elina Gilels, Pavel Gillilov and Ruth Slencznska, to name but a few. She was among a handful of pianists selected to participate and perform in many prestigious piano camps and festivals in Thailand, Hong Kong, Poland, Russia and the United States. Dr. Nopanand has been a guest soloist with both The Chulalongkorn University Symphony Orchestra and The Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra. A dedicated and inspiring teacher, Dr. Nopanand is a highly sought-after teacher whose students have won top prizes in national and international competitions, passed audition into prestigious music institutions both in Thailand, Europe and America, and received Distinction in their piano examinations. Dr. Nopanand is in high demand for her inspiring and informative teachers’ workshops, which she has conducted for Trinity Music Training Center, Churairat Music School, KPN Music Academy, Yamaha School of Music and Alfred Publishing Company, Singapore. Dr. Nopanand has been regularly invited to serve on the adjudicator panel of many national classical piano competitions including the Southern Thailand Piano Competition (which she served as the Chairperson), the Northern Thailand Piano Competition, The Yamaha Thailand Music Festival and Competition, and The National Youth Music Competition organized by Mahidol University.

In November 2004, she was invited to be on the adjudicator panel of the First ASEAN Chopin International Piano Competition in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Before going to further her studies abroad, Dr. Nopanand’s teachers included Mrs. Suda Gloria Chanorathaikul and Dr. Tongsuang Israngkul. She also obtained the FTCL, which is the highest Performer’s Diploma of the Trinity College of Music, London. Dr. Nopanand was appointed an Assistant Professor in Music of the College of Music, Mahidol University where she served as a full time piano faculty member for more than a decade and has contributed significantly in making it one of the strongest piano departments in Thailand. In addition, she was appointed by the Dean of the College of Music, Mahidol University to head the team, which started The Young Artist (Pre-College) Program of Mahidol University and she also served as the Principal of the Program during its first year.

Currently, Dr. Nopanand teaches in her own private studio, which focuses in training young talented pianists.

Dr. Somruedi Suchitphanit (Dr. Kwan

Dr. Somruedi Suchitphanit (Dr. Kwan) is a pianist and piano pedagogue from Bangkok,
Thailand. Her passion for teaching and learning drives her approach, which she believes is best for developing her student’s musical skills. Grounded on a firm academic tradition, she continuously updates her curriculum according to multidisciplinary research.
She has been teaching in both the United States and Thailand for 15 years. During that time, she has guided a number of her students to win competitions and to receive the highest score from ABRSM, Trinity and LCM Exams.

Her teaching style has evolved through her musical journey of studying in both the United
States and Thailand, places where she encountered numerous great pianists and pedagogues.

Amongst them all, those who have inspired her the most are Dr. Noppanand Chanorathaikul, Mrs. Phyllis Lehrer, Dr. James Goldsworthy, Dr. Jack Winerock and Dr. Scott Smith.

She received her Bachelor of Music from College of Music, Mahidol University (Thailand),
Master of Music in Piano Pedagogy and Performance at Westminster Choir College (Princeton, New Jersey) and Doctoral of Musical Art in Piano Performance from the University of Kansas (Lawrence, Kansas).
She has performed internationally, including playing a Concerto with Westminster Community Orchestra in Princeton, NJ and a piano four-hands repertoire with Christina Mandasari at Carnegie Hall, NY. Recently, She co-founded Round Note Music, a music studio in Bangkok.

Currently, she teaches full-time as Head of Keyboard at Rugby School Thailand. Besides
teaching, she also enjoys performing chamber music with her colleagues and giving lectures to teachers.
