ISB Panther Swim Team

Friday, September 24

Welcome to the fifth year of the Panther Swim Club Swim-a-thon!  It is a fun activity for all of our swimmers, it gives the kids a chance to set their own goals (with some suggestions from the coaches) and then reach for their target distance.  These goals will be set based on squad level and development. Our objective for Swimathon is twofold:

•1.      Ensure that the swimmers have a positive experience and can demonstrate their increased ability in the sport.

•2.     Help the swim club raise funds for team parties, equipment and awards.

Swimmers each year have always far exceeded their goals, it is great to see the kids realizing their own capability.  As noted above there is a fundraising component to this event.  We have decided that the proceeds from the Swimathon will be divided between charity and programs that are designed to support the swimmers – No money will be used to supplement the Club’s budget.  This year’s funds will be used as follows:

1)  The Job and Maria Scholarship Fund

2)  International Support Group Foundation (ISGF)

Note:  the first 70,000 baht raised is contributed to the Job and Maria Scholarship Fund and the ISGF.

3)  End-of-Semester Team Parties

4)  Team equipment and support

5)  Other non-budgetary items that directly support the swimmers

In past years we have contributed over 300,000 Baht to the scholarship fund.  We have also been able to ensure that the semester parties remain free to the swimmers and their families.  Finally over the past two years, we have been able to purchase two new digital pace clocks and an underwater camera system to assist the coaches in training the swimmers.

In addition to supporting the charity and the development of the swimmers, we also conduct swim-a-thon as a team-building event.  Based on the squads allocated time there will also be a pot-luck dinner for each of the squads, this will happen following the scheduled time for each squad.  We ask that each family bring something to share – we will have squad tables setup in the ES Gym

We hope that each swimmer will participate in the swim-a-thon to the best of their ability. Thank you very much for your participation!

•1.     Swimmers may start collecting pledges as soon as they receive the pledge sheets. Reminder: Pledge sheets need to be turned in on swim-a-thon day.

•2.     Pledges may be made by anyone.

•3.     Each sponsor making a pledge should write their own name, pledge per lap, and maximum pledge or set amount pledge. Swimmers may collect the pledge in advance but must keep pledges until all are collected.

•4.     On swim-a-thon day, each swimmer must have an adult lap counter/ supervisor, to keep track of the number of lap completed.  Each squad will swim during a specified time period in our pool. Each lap is 25 meters.

•5.     During the swim-a-thon, swimmers are allowed to stop as needed for toilet and water breaks.  If a swimmer needs to stop they simply move to a corner of their lane or get out of the pool so that other swimmers may continue unimpeded.  Older swimmers are encouraged to stop as little as possible.

•6.     Upon completion of the swim-a-thon, students will get their lap count approved. A volunteer will record each student’s lap total on their pledge sheet and return it. Students may then collect outstanding pledges. Please return pledge sheets with the money to ISB Panther Swim Club by Friday, October 1.

We look forward to all our participants having a great time! For questions or concerns, email Andy Myers, Head Coach at swim@isb.ac.th ; to volunteer email swim2@isb.ac.th .
