Boys Bangkok vs. Manila

With only 15 seconds left, ISB Panthers only held a two-point lead against the ISM Bearcats. Although the Bearcats put up a ferocious fight, the Panthers pulled out and won the game with a 57-54 lead.

The two teams were on each other’s tails the whole game. Neither team was able to gain an enormous lead, but rather it was a fair competition. Both teams put up a good fight, and nobody could have guessed the outcome until the end.

The Panthers fought hard and plan to continue this hard work at the games tomorrow!

Girls Manila vs. Jakarta

The JIS vs. ISM was an especially rough game. While JIS managed to keep the lead on ISM throughout the entire game, it can’t be said that Manila didn’t give it their all. Within the first half of the 3rd Quarter there were at least 5 falls and several fouls.  Captain Katrina Gavino of ISM took the most spills during the game, but showed incredible tenacity in her ability to pick herself up after every fall. In the end JIS won 47 to 35, with Kamille Villareal scoring a 3 point shot within the last ten seconds of the game. ISM may have lost, but they certainly didn’t go down without a fight.

Girls Taipei vs. Bangkok

The girl’s match between home team ISB and TAS was intense.  TAS stayed in the lead for the majority of the game, managing to be at least two points ahead of ISB throughout the first three quarters. ISB came back hard in Quarter 4, though, scoring 8 points in a single minute and effectively tying the game. The game continued to stay close until TAS managed to get a 4 point lead on ISB. In the end TAS won 73 to 62.

Joanne Matsuo from TAS was definitely a hard player in this game, scoring 13 points in total for her team. The International spoke to Joanne after the game, and as a 3rd year IASAS basketball member she presents herself as tough competition.  Will Joanne and the TAS girls make gold?

Boys Kuala Lampur vs. Manila

ISM started off strong from the very beginning. They maintained a very strong lead throughout the game. ISKL put up a good fight, but ultimately they were unable to hold back ISM’s aggressive offense. ISM won by 38 points, ending the game at 17-55, ISM.

Girls Kuala Lumpur vs. Singapore

SAS is now 3-0 after a strong game against ISKL. By the 3rd Quarter SAS was up 45 to 17.  ISKL showed great determination in the 4th Quarter, managing to shoot 5 points to bring them up to a score of 21. SAS was brutal, though, scoring 15 point that round. Lauren McMullen shot the final basket of the game, bringing SAS up to a startling 60 points by the time the buzzer sounded.

After the game The International spoke to SAS Girl’s Basketball Assistant Coach Tom Beams. He stated that he was happy with how the SAS girls were playing, and that [the coaches] were glad with how all of the players got an equal amount of time on the court. One of SAS major players was injured during the SAS/ISKL game, but Assistant Coach Beams says that SAS has their eye on the gold.

Boys Jakarta vs. Taipei

The morning kicked off with the Jakarta Dragons playing the Taipei Tigers. JIS was leading by 8 points (34-26, JIS) in the beginning of the 3rd quarter. James Sherpa of JIS scored a 3 pointer, making the Tigers up their performance. By the 4th quarter, the JIS dragons were trailing by 6 points (41-47, Tigers), a result of the Tigers’ fantastic defense and running some great plays. Byung Woo Seo scored a 3-pointer for the Dragons, brining the score to 50-55, Tigers. However, the Tigers continued their solid defense and maintained their lead, winning the game 60-52.

Girls Kuala Lumpur vs. Bangkok

The game between ISB and ISKL girls was a closely matched, highly exciting game that ended with a 51-41 score, with ISB as the winner. Throughout the round, the two equally skilled teams found themselves butting heads as the score remained floating within just a few shots for the majority of the first two halves. However, by the sound of the halftime buzzer, ISKL had garnered a 7 point lead and ISB was looking shaky. It wasn’t until ISB’s Jayna Milan scored three consecutive layups that the Bangkok team gained enough momentum to end the game with their close victory. ISB’s Amanda Giles remarks that ISKL put up quite the fight, and the match was a lot tougher than when the two teams played at the exchange. This marks the first win for ISB in the round robin, a promising bounce back from their match with JIS. ISKL still has their games against JIS, SAS, and TAS ahead of them as opportunities for their own first win.

 

Girls Jakarta vs. Bangkok

When the JIS girls played the ISB girls is was a tough call. Each team scored some great baskets, racing up and down the court to score each layup. Both teams played hard, but in the end the Dragons were victorious with a score of 51 to the Panthers’ 36. Through the first, second and third quarters the teams dueled it out, and were relatively evenly matched. The Dragons pulled ahead in the last quarter, scoring consecutive baskets and wearing down the already weary Panthers. The Panthers fought to the end though, with Amanda Giles scoring a layup moments before the game ended. It wasn’t enough to pull the Panthers out of their slump however. ISB Captain Carly Bessette reflects “this is only the start, we’re going to bounce back.”

Boys Manila vs. Singapore

In an intense game International School Manila versed Singapore American School. Through out the first three quarters of the game the teams were evenly matched with strong defensive and offensive plays. Late into the last quarter the teams were tied at 56, each striving to get that extra point over the other. The Bearcats pulled ahead with 59 vs. the Eagles 58. With two minutes left to the game the teams were once again tied, the Eagles managing to pull ahead with a free throw, bringing them to 60. Brendan Bieker of SAS scored an impressive three-point shot, pulling the Eagles further into the lead. The Eagles continued to score, with ISM scoring in the last 30 seconds of the game. The game ended with the Eagles victorious, 65 to 61, ISM player Daniel Cho hurling the ball from half court and making the basket just milliseconds after the buzzer sounded.

Girls ISM vs. ISKL

ISKL V. ISM (Girls)

A 3-pointer from Captain Katrina Gavino #23 from Manila tied ISKL and ISM at 20 points in the 3rd quarter. They were never more than two points away from each other after that. ISM played an aggressive game, while ISKL had very strong defense.

It was an evenly matched game, up until the last couple minutes of the 3rd quarter, when Manila took the lead with 36-30. Into the fourth quarter, ISM kept their lead. ISKL however, did not give up. A 3-pointer from Emma Wich #13 of ISKL put ISKL at 37 to Manila’s 50. KL fought through to the end. With 5 seconds left on the clock, KL gets the finishing shot, ending the game at 41-50, Manila’s victory.

Gavino and JJ Yim dominated the court with their speed and accuracy.

The ISM girls stated that they started off slow, but pulled through in the end.
