Saturday Afternoon – Cultural Boat Trip

Delegates will travel to our amazing Thai dinner venue by boat along the famous Chaophraya River. In addition to viewing temples, longtail commuters and village life, we will stop at Rongsi Studio on Koh Kret, an old rice mill converted into a beautiful coffee shop and workspace. They will have an opportunity to observe, photograph and sketch along the way

Friday  Evening – Open Studio

Delegates will have an opportunity to continue their work or create new work from the workshops that they attended earlier. The workshop spaces will have supplies, equipment and assistants available to help.

Screen printing – with Jeff Ross

What does one do when they are in the midst of a new cultural phenomenon deemed grunge? Print concert posters and band (Nirvana) t-shirts, of course.

This is how Jeff Ross began his over-30 years of experience in screen printing.

In this workshop Jeff will share his history of painting, printing, collage and street art and teach delegates methods for creating multi-layer prints. Using a limited amount of imagery, participants will be challenged to create cohesive designs for canvas bags that they will design and print for all the members of their school’s delegation.

Day Two Copper plate etching – with K. Axe from Pineapple Print Press

Etching is a centuries old method for creating prints. In this workshop delegates will learn about the various printmaking techniques and the process of copper plate etching. Using their own original drawings, participants will learn how to draw onto the copper plate, etch it in an acid bath, then ink and print on paper and fabric.

 

  1. Axe is a former professor of printmaking at Mongkol University. He is working towards his doctorate in the medium and recently opened his own studio, Pineapple Print Press, where he hosts workshops and visiting artists and shares his love of printmaking.

Friday Evening – Presentation, underwater photo editing and open studio

Tim Calver will share an amazing presentation of his work. Not to be missed, his stunning photography will be accompanied by his talk about his passions for art, marine biology, conservationism and travel.

Tim and Basil will work with artists to edit the underwater photos from the afternoon workshop. Chris will be available as well for those who want to continue developing their “World”. Delegates will also have an opportunity to continue their work or create new work from the workshops that they attended earlier. The workshop spaces will have supplies, equipment and assistants available to help.

World Building for Film and Games – with Chris Rogers

Ever wonder how the fictional worlds of our favorite films, video games and TV shows go from idea to screen? In this workshop, learn some key design techniques used by professional concept artists to breathe life into imaginary worlds. Get the tools to create truly relatable, believable and creative environments and characters. Also learn about rapid idea generation, secrets for a faster workflow and Photoshop tricks for digital drawing and painting.

Using examples from popular culture, the delegates will delve into what makes a great fictional world, and then use industry methods for generating and communicating their own via workshop. Taught by an ISB alumnus and recent graduate of FZD School of Design in Singapore.

Cyanotype printmaking – with Basil Tahan

The color blue has had a remarkable impact on the history of world trade. Rarely occurring in the natural world, blue pigments were, for centuries, highly sought-after by craftsmen and merchants. Basil Tahan will be offering students the chance to learn how to use chemistry and light to create unique and beautiful blue artworks called cyanotypes.

Artists will coat their own paper or fabrics with cyanotype chemistry.  Then, combine photographic images, flora and fauna, acrylic sheets, paint, oil pastels and etching tools to make negatives that will be exposed in the Bangkok sun to create stunning works of art.

Underwater Creative Photography – with Tim Calver

We are incredibly lucky to have Mr. Tim Calver as one of our ISB community members. Tim is a photographer who specializes in underwater photography. His passion for marine biology and conservation has guided some of his amazing projects including work for The History Channel, National Geographic and the US Coast Guard. He has also photographed on movie sets with filmmakers including work he did on Pirates of the Caribbean.

We will be offering a chance for delegates to create innovative portraits and other staged underwater scenes. We will work in the pool with underwater cameras, studio backdrops, props and lights. There will be open studio in the evening time that we are
