Bare was inspired by the layers that identity holds. Influenced by Burne Hogarth and his human anatomy drawings, this piece uncovers the facades society makes women display. Held under the hand of judgement, this self-portrait exhibits the unattainable standards we are expected to meet. Women are forced to present themselves in ‘colour’ when in actuality we are all the same underneath. Drawn in pencil, the muscle and hand lack pigment, leaving only the masked face to come forward. Hence, the audience can deduce that identity is not just visual but so much more.
