Garbage Patch–Part A
Welcome back everyone and Happy New Year to all. I will write a post about my trip to New Zealand a little later.
We are currently studying sustainability and are looking at news articles that inform us about positive and negative aspects of sustainability in the world. We studied one article together on garbage in the Pacific Ocean. We read the article together as a class and had a good discussion on what impact this has in our lives and the Ocean. I found the article and news broadcast quite alarming, particularly because there doesn’t seem to be a solution we are quick to embrace. Certainly, one of the easiest things we all can do is to recycle. If the statistics are correct and approximately only 5% of the world is recycling, this seems to be an obvious first step.
Do you make the most of recycling?
What are your thoughts on polluted oceans?
I also found on youtube a news broadcast talking about the very same thing. Take a look.
To tell the truth, I don’t recycle that much but I do recycle every time at school. I recycle paper, plastic and stuff into the recycle bin. So I think I don’t recycle a lot but from now on, I will try to recycle.
:(
I think its scary and sad to the fish. Its actually our faults. Everyone touch plastic and throw it. We eat fish mainly everyday or once a while. Fish eat plastic in the sea that contain bad toxic. When we eat it, it will probably effect our health. So I think this is one of the scariest thing that happened.
This is sad because there are trillions of garbage or plastic in the pacific ocean and if the animals eat a lot of garbage they might die. WE should stop doing this and help the environment
like Edward said i dont recycle that much but i do recycle in school the only thing i recycle in my house is plastic bags and when i take a bath i dont spend that much time and i turn off the water when i bruch my theth but i will try to recycle more by putting a big bag in my room for recycleing
Most of the time I do recycle. I love to help out with the environment. I think it is scary because trash and all these other chemicals can kill animals, us, and if it couldn’t get any worse… the EARTH!!! I think it’s cool about that dude cleaning up the garbage and researching about the big Pacific Ocean Patch of trash.
When I saw that video I was suprised to see that people are selfish these days. Even me sometimes. I am pretty sure trash doesn’t fall out of the sky to blame us for throwing trash there. But we have the right to be blamed. But we also have the right to TRY to fix the problems.
I recycle A LOT! I have this bag in my bedroom where I recycle all my papers. I also recycle in School too. I agree with Nicole when she says that the animals, us, and worst of all the EARTH can get killed. We have the power to try not to make that happen
After I saw this video I was scared, shoked, sad, and also worried. I was scared because I know people like me (and sometimes me) are the cause for this damage that has happened. One thing like throwing garbage into the water can make an effect that lasts a lifetime. I was shocked because I never have heard of the Pacific Ocean Patch and it sounds like something you don’t want to make bigger. If we stop littering and reduce our use of plastic this can make a change to all things that are getting killed by all the plastic in the water. I was sad because fish and other animals are eating the plastic that is in the water and they can eventually die. I don’t want animals to die because of one little piece of garbage that we don’t recycle. It is horrible! Finally I was worried because I was thinking what happens when this gets bigger and bigger? Does it destroy everything in its path? Does it kill all the animals? I don’t know but I hope all the answers are no. If we just TRY to fix things we will be OK because we know we are doing everything we can do to help. So now you should at least TRY to STOP polluting and littering and most importantly stop using plastic.
I try to recycle everyday. For example, every time I have a disposable plastic bottle, I throw it away in the recycling bin instead of the garbage bin. I feel very shocked because the in class, I learned that fish eat plankton also eat the plastic particles. I also feel really worried because a lot of people enjoy eating fish but when we eat fish that ate plastic, it also goes into our bodies as well.
I was very depressed when I watched the video and saw that fish are eating plastic which could mean us eating plastic filled fish and other animals that eat fish.
I try my best to recycle but somtimes there is no bin at another place. I do somtimes forget though.
My thoughts about polluted oceans are that not only are they are killing creatures and making them look extremley awful and ugly but it is us who are doing it so we need to clean up our mess.
I recycle most of the time. When I have papers that can be used again, I put them into a pile, so next time if I need to use scrap paper it’s already there for me. I think it’s real bad to pollute, and this is the video for people who pollute, because it is really sad and it tells you what can happen to the earth and etc. It’s not one persons fault about polluting. It’s everyone. I mean, every once and a while, you would maybe pollute. So, probably everyone has polluted at least once. Even a little piece of plastic could hurt the earth.
We should all at least try to make a change to the EARTH!!

Do you make the most of recycling?
Yes I will do recycling whenever I get a chance to do so.
What are your thoughts on polluted oceans?
I feel really bad that all our waters because they are filled with so much trash so much that there is a whirlpool of trash.
What I think about recycling. I think that it is really helpful to us. But sometimes it can be hard. Like if you say you are going to use less electricity. It can be hard because we use electricity alot. The times I recycle is when im in school I recycle paper. I also conserve water by Turning it off when I brush my teeth. That is what I think about recycling.
Q:Do you make the most of recycling?
A: I recycle ever so often. i recycle every thing but paper! like next to my garbage can i have a mini garbage can to recycle and on the end of each week my maid takes it some where!
But in my room i have a have a secret garbage to recycle paper! every Monday i bring it to school and dump the paper in the recycling bin!
Q: What are your thoughts on polluted oceans?
A: i think it is scary because when i was in Bali i went sea kayaking with my dad and i saw huge whirlpool of garbage and i could believe any thing bigger than that but there is some thing bigger and that is really sad and scary!

I try to recycle as much as I can but s sometimes I don’t. My brother draws a lot so we need to buy a lot of paper which makes my mom buying more paper. If you come to our house we have at least 500 papers everywhere, it’s so messy!
Now I want to recycle batterys but I keep forgetting to recycle. I’m planning to recycle batterys to the battery recycle bin. I think it’s going to be fun!
When I saw the video I was so scared about polluting. I know we pollute a lot but I never thought this much!
The most scariest part was when I saw the fishes eating plastic. I saw 86 plastic pieces was in the fishes body. What if we eat the fish that ate plastic? I’m pretty sure we are going to get killed easily, but we can’t say anything because we are the one who made those terrible messes! And it can’t be cleaned up!
As you see plastic can distract our food chain and the food chain is going to get dangered. I really worried about that!
I hope some day all the people in Earth is going to recycle!
Most of the time I recycle. I always use some leftover paper or my bro’s messed up drawings I use them for Mr.Kitty’s Furniture. I already made him a car, drawers, A little baggy, and a T.V.. Sometimes they break so I use that stuff to make somethink like a rug. If I cant use it I usully put it in my closet and when I need to make a box or something I just tape it with other unuseful paper.
I think we should stop! Turtles, Fish, and other animals die of our trash! They didnt cause ANY of it! There getting killed for OUR WANTS! We should just take what we need and leave. And also I heard that if keep taking too much fish and keep polluting where going to kill them and that means other predators of that fish will die and it’ll go knoking down. If we dont take Action Quickly theyll die because of our trash.

I think I don’t recycle that much but I still recycle. I recycle a little bit at school but I do not recycle at home.
I think its very bad that human threw so many trash and most of it is plastic. They threw so many trash into the ocean and making the little fish eat it and they have chemical inside their body. They was one scientist that find out that they are one fish that have 75 pieces of plastic inside their body.
I recycle sometimes whenever I can. I keep all my papers in a plastic in my room.
I felt guilty because humans threw the trash in the ocean and I’m a human. I think that some people are just careless about where they throw their trash and toss it wherever they want. I think certain kinds of fish will soon become endangered because they are eating all the trash.
I recycle sometimes. But most of the time I don’t. Usually I recycle by making origami or little small pieces of furniture. I love to do it but most of the time the paper is too small or is like torn holes, and stuff.
I think us throwing trash in the water is terrible! I think animals are dying for our problems. We pollute the ocean, gisers form, animals dye because of us! US!
We throw the trash, they die because of us!

1. I made the most of recycling things because it’s helpful to our planet without littering.
2.We should take advantage to the polluted oceans by banning boats with oil and people polluting it because the fish will die so we won’t have enough fish to catch.
hi miss B
I think I don’t recycle that much but from a scale from 1 to 10 I would be about 4 1/2 or 5. I think the story was a bit creepy how the fish eat chemicals and the people eat the fish and the people get sick.
Nihal
I was absolutely devastated when I heard that our trash is spreading so far and that it doubles in size every decade!
Do you make the most of recycling?
I try extremely hard to recycle but the problem is I don’t have a recylce bin at home yet at school I recycle every thing I possibly can.
What are your thoughts on polluted oceans?
I’m really depressed that we are the ones murdering the creatures from the rivers & the oceans, because we are the ones who dump and drop our rubbish in their homes. The plastic forms into tiny little pieces and stays there forever. Sometimes it gets stuck inside the fish & never comes out and it can kill them.
i rilly think that evreone shuold resical because planet earth is the only plase we have left and we only have one shot left. if we dont stop we will be scrude so we shuold be more inviermently friendly. and i want that evreone stops distroing plant earth.
Hello everyone,
I love that you are focused on this topic. I show a lot about this stuff in my eco class in the middle school. If you would like to become a part of the solution to plastic bags, well, you can. You can bring your own reusable bags with you. But more importantly, you can be a part of something that is creating change. Join us on Feb 20 at Villa market when we ban the plastic bag. You can also join this cause on Facebook and learn more about it on carrotmob. Hope to get all your support!

Well I like many others that have comment do not recycle as much as I need to. My family and myself have started recycling our aluminum coke cans that we use at our house, and our leftover newspapers. I think it is great that yall are taking a big interest in this topic. Maybe if we all started recycling and cleaning the garbage patch little by little we can solve these problems. But the big thing is that it is going to take everyone!
