fun-read

We’ve all been there. We are reading a book, and it just isn’t making sense. Or worse yet, it puts you to sleep! My question for you is … what does it take to keep you reading. What do you need in a book so that you don’t abandon it? Take a moment and share your thoughts with us …

What do you think about when you read?

The last couple of days in class have seen us focusing on sharing our thoughts and feelings about what we are reading. In class, we brainstormed what kinds of thinking were going on. Students came up with:

- making personal connections

- recording what we have learned

- writing down questions (and sometimes answers)

- making predictions

- recording new, interesting and/or important words

During our 30 minutes of daily reading, we are recording our ideas on post-its, and then sharing with a partner. Today was our second session of sharing, and some of the conversations were really impressive. Have a look …

reading

As readers, what do we like, what do we love, or perhaps … what is challenging or difficult for us? Put your thinking hats on and share some of your reading “secrets” with the rest of us. Try to come up with a list of 5 (or more) things about you as a reader. Good luck!

Friday in class we brainstormed goals which we felt, as a group, were important in making our classroom a great place to learn. Here is what the kids came up with:

Goals For Room 210

We will ALL:
1 ) come in prepared to learn, not play
2 ) raise our hands before we speak, and wait for the speaker to finish speaking
3 ) listen when Mr. J is teaching so that you know what to do
4 ) follow directions
5 ) if you miss something, C3B4Me
6 ) be respectful of your classmates (and teacher) and cooperate
7 ) be responsible with your belongings and classroom materials
8 ) be honest and do your own work
9 ) challenge yourself! (push yourself to do more)
10) stay organized

And most of all … have fun!

Also, a reminder that homework will be posted on the “Homework” page each night (found at the top of our class bog), instead of writing in homework booklets this year. We meet at the end of the day and discuss homework, when things are due, and what needs to be packed. Students are responsible for making sure they go home prepared, and if they forget anything, checking the class blog for reminders. Please assist with this as much as you feel necessary.

OUR CLASS OF 2010-2011

Welcome back everyone! It has been a very busy, fun-filled first week of school. Everyone is settling in well, and classroom routines becoming established. The class blog will be my main means of communication between school and home. You can check-in once in a while to see what we are doing in class, as well as to see examples of student work. More information on that later …

If you would like to subscribe, click on the link underneath the spinning globe up above (Subscribe to Room 210 - Mr. Jessee by Email) and then enter your email address. Also, don’t forget to type the “code” into the text box to prevent spam. What that means is that whenever I (or a student) update the class blog, an email will be sent to you with the entry.

Other than that, I look forward to an amazing year with this great group of students!

Hi everyone … I am so sorry about missing the last couple days of school, but I know you did just fine without me. Everyone is doing well, and we are very excited. It is going to be a busy summer!

Anyways, thank you for making my first year @ ISB so amazing. Enjoy YOUR summer and a nice long break from school. For those of you leaving us (Wiveca, Phuntsho, Mickey and Cindy) … good luck and try to stay in touch. The rest of you must come visit me when we get back at school.
