Blog Etiquette
Just as there are etiquette rules for conversing on a phone, there are etiquette rules for posting on a blog.
This is a moderated blog. All comments will be held until approval is granted for the post by the ReadWriteConnect administrator.
There are some steadfast rules:
1. Students may only use first names on comments.
2. Do not include your personal information or personal information of anyone else (phone number, address, names of anyone).
3. Proofread your comment for spelling and grammatical errors.
4. Use appropriate language for school.
Comments deemed inappropriate or off-topic will not be approved for posting. Thank you!
*Thanks to Kristine Woods, Teasley Middle School Media Center, for letting us borrow their blog rules!
*ISB has a cyber-bullying policy in place. On page 18 of your student handbook it states:
Cyber-Bullying – sending via any form of electronic device, be it while at school or from outside of ISB, messages that are aggressive, hurtful, intolerant, teasing, denigrating (racial, sexual, religious, or personal), rumors, or threatening. ISB becomes involved when student’s online activities impact at-school life and community. In other words, if the actions of students outside of school have an effect on students feeling unsafe or uncomfortable at school, then ISB administration will act and remedy this. Additionally, if members of ISB staff or its community are targeted, then the school administration gets involved. Cyber-bullying is not tolerated at ISB in any format.
Benefits of Student Blogging
1. Creates a learning community feel in a place away from the traditional classroom. This learning community is open 24/7.
2. Provides an authentic audience for student writing, an audience of peers and parents.
3. Allows for multiple feedback among the networked students, teachers and other interested parties. Learning in a class blog setting is now a social activity.
4. Allows a wonderful outlet for creativity.
5. Supports differentiation. The blog gives some of our more verbally reserved students a forum for their thoughts.
6. Encourages reading. To make a meaningful comment, or to choose their favorite post, the students first need to read what’s out there.
7. Encourages and teaches research skills. Encourages students to extend their research beyond the assigned work.
